Baby, It’s Cold Outside!

Here’s what I love about living in California:

One day it’s hotter than blue blazes.  You buy sunscreen in bulk and can’t strip off into your swimsuits often enough.  You have an ice machine installed because you’re drinking lemonade by the gallon, and nobody believes you that it’s bedtime because “it’s still light outside, Mom!”

The next day, a leaf falls off a tree.

The day after that, the wind starts to blow and the temperature goes from 90’+ to hanging around the high 60’s, low 70’s and you break out the sweaters and thick socks.  Now you’re drinking tea and hot cocoa by the gallon and the kids think it’s time for bed at 5:30 p.m.

This goes on for a few months and then the rains come.  It’s straight out of Winnie the Pooh when Eeyore loses his house to flooding.  You start to wonder if the sun will ever shine again, and then it does.  Spring is beautiful for all of five days, and then you’re back to blue blazes…

It’s the circle of life!  Who says California has only one season?

  1. I had to move to the South to actually experience fall and spring. The only thing is we don’t have winter…?… If the weather man says that there may be a chance for a flurry, there isn’t a piece of bread to be had at Wal-Mart and every generator in the state has been sold! But say that there will be a chance for a tornado, and everyone (except for me who is in my safe place trying to find a happy place in fetal position) is outside looking to the sky! It cooled down to 80 something and 50 something at night.
